Status:
Since my first visit to Provincelands, I have been under the spell of that great Sahara-like wilderness at the edge of the Atlantic Ocean. It is like no other place on Cape Cod, which we have all come to domesticate and feel at home in. Provincelands is that part of Cape Cod that is savage and undomesticatible. Home to wild animals--snakes, coyotes and others--and to heat and aridity in summer, it is not a little threatening to the unwary and casual visitor. But it is the fantastic shape of the dunes that attracts my interest here and in other paintings of this series.
